MPAN (Meter Point Administration Number)

A 13-digit reference number unique to your electricity supply point.

What is an MPAN?

An MPAN (Meter Point Administration Number) is a 13-digit unique identifier for every electricity supply point in the UK. Think of it like a postcode for your electricity meter – it tells suppliers exactly which meter they're dealing with.

Why is it important?

  • Switching suppliers: Suppliers use your MPAN to transfer your account

    • Accurate billing: Ensures your usage is recorded correctly

      • Change of Tenancy: We use it to register you as the new occupier

        Where to find your MPAN

        Your MPAN can be found:

        • On your electricity bill (usually in the top section)

          • On the meter itself (sometimes printed on a label)

            • By asking your current supplier

              MPAN format

The 13 digits are split into sections:

              • First 2 digits: Profile class (usage pattern)

                • Next 2 digits: Line loss factor

                  • Next 2 digits: Distributor ID

                    • Final 7 digits: Unique meter identifier

                      Don't have it?

No problem! When you use SwitchAdmin, we can look up your MPAN using your address. It speeds things up if you have it, but it's not essential.
